Why You Should Never Pay 6% Real Estate Agent Commission

Jul 31, 2023

Imagine you're a homeowner who wants to sell your house...

You meet with a local real estate agent who promises you everything you were hoping for- a quick sale, an easy process, and a chance to move on with your life...

Then at the end of their speech...BAM!!!  You find out that working with a real estate agent will cost you 6% of your home's sale price.

Never Pay 6% Real Estate Agent Commission Again

Been in those shoes before?  Maybe you're in them right now.  Either way, you know how it feels to be stunned by the fact that thousands of dollars of YOUR hard-earned equity are on the line.

The good news?  There are plenty of ways to sell your house for low commission or even NO commission!

In fact, the days of 6% commission are dwindling because homeowners everywhere are finding out that they can and deserve to SAVE THEIR EQUITY!

So how is this possible?  We're about to tell you...

Why 6% Real Estate Agent Commission is Not Fair

If you've had "The 6% Bomb" dropped on you like we talked about earlier, then you might be wondering "is 6% a lot for a real estate agent?"

Well, it depends on who you're asking...

Ask a real estate agent and they'll give you the reasons why you should fork over 6%.

Ask most other people out there and they'll tell you that they would much rather keep that 6% commission in their pocket.

6% is an excessive amount of money to hand to someone who spends a few hours listing your property, takes some phone calls, and shows people around your house.

This is especially true because just about any homeowner can pick up a phone and schedule a showing or give a tour around their own house.

So why on earth is anyone still paying 6% commission?  Glad you asked.

Why Real Estate Agents Get Paid So Much

There are 3 main reasons why real estate agents get paid so much commission...

1) Homeowners don't have the time to sell their own house

What these folks don't realize is that there are plenty of ways to minimize the time commitment associated with selling your house.  And you don't need to be a real estate agent to do it.

For example, in just 2 hours or less, you can have your house listed on all of the top online listing platforms.  So if you would rather save the 6% commission, you're only a Sunday afternoon away from getting things off the ground.  (That's a nice pay day for only 2 hours of work!)

Want to save time scheduling showings?  Pick a day within 1-2 weeks after your listing goes live to set aside for all your showing appointments.  With this method, you only have to prepare your house - and yourself - once for the showings.

2) Homeowners don't feel confident they can sell their own house

Let's set the record straight...

If you were the buyer, what would be more important to you when choosing your next home - the house or the agent selling it?  In reality, it's not the agent that sells the house.  The house sells itself to the right buyer.

At the end of the day, real estate agents are in it for the money.  Period.  It's the same relationship most of us have with our day jobs.

If you truly want to work with someone who cares about getting your house sold as quickly as possible and for the highest price possible - without asking for 6% of your equity - then you will find that person in your mirror.

The best person to sell your house is YOU.  All you need is the knowledge, which brings us to our next point...

3) Homeowners don't know how to sell their house quickly and easily

In this day and age, there are more and more tools available to help you sell your house quickly and easily - real estate agent or no real estate agent.  And part of our mission here at www.YourHouseYourEquity.com is to share them with you.  Find out more here.

With that being said, we know that there are some situations where a homeowner would still prefer to use a real estate agent.  And that brings us back to the topic of 6% commission.

How to Pay Less Commission When Selling A House

Whether you work with an agent or not, our goal is to help you spend either a fair amount of commission or no commission.

If you have an agent list your house, as you know, they will almost always expect 6%.  You owe it to yourself to negotiate with them and never pay more than 4% commission to a listing agent.

If you would rather skip the haggling and get connected with an agent who is willing to do the job for 4% or less, then check out our FREE Webinar: "How to Easily Sell Your House & Keep Your Equity" to find out how we can connect you with an agent in our network.

On the webinar, we will also talk about how FSBO (For Sale By Owner) listings can either reduce or avoid paying a commission to a Buyers' Agent if they bring the buyer for your property.

YOUR House, YOUR Equity

As always, we encourage homeowners everywhere to remember...

It's YOUR house, and it's YOUR equity

This truth is at the core of what we believe here at www.YourHouseYourEquity.com.  And it is our mission to spread the word to as many homeowners as possible so they can...SAVE THEIR EQUITY!!!
